Tattoo-The Hidden Message: Religious Pluralism

08 Mar

The tattoo caused so much hype in the media recently. As you may wonder, this is not unintentional. This kind of acts happened so many times. Several mainstream media are insensitive to Islamic issues-The Star, MalaysiaKini and The Malaysian Insider, to name a few.

What’s more disturbing is not the tattoo itself, but the responses-arguing the banning the concert particularly, the so-called “Moderate” muslims, eg. the tattoo won’t cause any harms to their “iman”/belief; the banning endangers the rights of the minority non-Muslims to enjoy entertainment; it’s just a tattoo-she was just showing her admiration to the name of gods; why Muslims are so sensitive with this issue? It’s their rights to tattoo the name of Allah; Allah is not exclusive to Islam

In the present upsurge of liberalism, the “troops” are disseminating its messages:

There is no such things of “Absolute truth”, everyone has ‘Individual’s truth” and no one can impose his/her norms/values/belief in arguing the “truths”, it’s either the “truth” is logical or illogical.

Message of pluralism is visibly depicted in the tattoo-which showed all symbols and names of “god”. To the ignorant “moderate” muslims, the tattoo showed two symbols of Allah, with other symbols of religions. The message of the tattoo is clear, we can have multiple religions, praying with all names of god and no religion is superior that the other ie. Islam is not the truth, and all gods shared all religions.

We are one in one religion which encompasses all religions and all gods.

This is unmistakably a message to shaken the beliefs of Muslims, particularly in Malaysia who fundamentally obey to teachings of Quran and Hadiths.

Truly, the religion with Allah is Islam. Those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) did not differ except, out of mutual jealousy, after knowledge had come to them. And whoever disbelieves in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah, then surely, Allah is Swift in calling to account. (Surah al-Imran:19)

“Islam is always higher and nothing goes above it.” (Hadith Riwayat al-Baihaqi)

Without a doubt, Islam is only true religion and perfected by Prophet Muhammad SAW.

For the ideology of religious pluralism and liberalism to be propagated further, absolute idea of freedom of speech, freedom of expression and freedom of media must be accepted and logically agreed by the majority.

For Malaysia, perhaps the best agents are the “moderate” Muslims who are portrayed as professional, intelligent, modern but blatantly ignored their Islamic teachings, Quran and Sunnah as they put their logic primarily in interpreting their own religious views.

And the first step to train these agents is by degrading their Muslim identity and attenuating their feelings of honour in Islam.

One may ask, who are “the troops”?

Who else, they are the troops of satan!

Erykah Badu: Insensitivity and Ignorance

Why do we abandon the teaching of Islam and being ever so apologetic to hedonistic culture?

I refer to a radio show called “Evening Edition” hosted by a local business radio aired on Thursday evening (1/3/2012). The topic discussed was about the concert cancellation of the American artist Erykah Badu in Malaysia due to the sensitive issue of the tattoo resembling the Arabic writing of Allah on her shoulders. Throughout the show, the deejays argued that Malaysia has a multi-cultural society, and the concert could have brought a lot of economic prosperities to the people. The deejays also provoked the ministry’s inconsistency in implementing bans to other controvercy concerts ever held in Malaysia.

I would like to highlight how insensitive the Malaysian people have become nowadays. I am sadden that even the muslims who were interviewed or called in to the show are sympathetic to that particular American artist, as well as to a particular mainstream newspaper that repeatedly showed its ignorance to the muslims’ sensitivity. True sensitivity is born out of respect, not out of fear or cowardness.

Just like it is common sense to expect the young ones to be sensitive to the elderly needs and vice versa, the same is expected on religious issues. What is alarming is that, the level of respect and sensitivity by the muslims to their own religion is eroding tremendously, due to the new ideologies bombarding their minds, such as liberalism, democracies and human rights. These ideologies propagated by the western media sounds so attractive, so exciting, so modern, you must have wondered “Why is Islam not doing this?”.

To all muslims in Malaysia, I would like to highlight that in the Islamic teachings, all these ideologies are celebrated, but in a controlled manner. To all muslims in Malaysia, I urge you to dig deep inside our Islamic teachings, how these ideologies are suppose to be nurtured and implemented in our ways of thinking and everyday actions. We cannot and must not embrace the western culture of such openness and such liberal thinking that welcomes everything, even immorality.

Morality is not something we can learn from the western media. Morality is the least item propagated by them, and even by our local hosts, unfortunately. Islam teaches about guidelines, Islam teaches about boundaries and above all, Islam educates the humanity on morality. Only the community of high morality will achieve greatness and earn great respect.
